Weekly News Breakdown: 5th October 2011

Sad news if you live in Newtown and have been to Soni’s / Madame Fling Flong. The previous owner and namesake Sonia Marra died in a helicopter crash in NYC. She was there with her partner to celebrate her 40th birthday.More here.

A loss to the Inner West.

Moving on from the sad to the truly depressing. Fanboys can’t get enough Weezer (who the hell knows why) so instead of actually touring Australia there’s 2 tribute acts in the works. First off those hardkore punx Good Charlotte are playing The Blue Album as part of the JD Set. For those paying attention you may recall the last event was Art VS Science doing Icehouse.  This is almost certain to be just as good. Tickets.

The other event is Soundwave 2012 where Saves The Day will perform Pinkerton in full. We still don’t know why.

So how about Big Day Out lineup right? Meh.
I’m all for Sydney Opera House trying to diversify itself and get in on the cool kids’ scene but booking shows in an all-seating venue is the pits. I’m talking about Fleet Foxes, Beirut, Chris Cornell and Bon Iver, all of whom are playing there in the upcoming months. Shit’s starting to get expensive so I’m gonna choose my gigs wisely. Yeezy at the Ent Cent an Soundgarden at the Horden for moi.

Still, if you have cash to spend then spend it here.

Chris Cornell

Fleet Foxes

Bon Iver

Beirut

More gigs? Sure why not.

Go see PJ Harvey in January. Here.

You know when you have a long weekend and you get back to work and there’s 200 emails waiting for you and all you wanna do is sit on your ass? That’s why you’re only getting a half-assed news breakdown today.
